Crickhollow Books and Crispin Books are intertwined imprints of our indie book publishing house, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We publish fiction and nonfiction titles for adult and young readers – appealing, effective, well-reviewed, influential books with a lasting, positive impact.
Although we aren’t exclusively Midwestern in subject matter, we are Midwestern in spirit. Our books are neighborly, down-to-earth, and practical, but always have time to share a good story, well told.
Although we are small in size, microscopic in comparison to the big mega-houses, we strive to produce quality books that can make a difference . . . in our Midwest heartland region, and in the wide world of readers across the globe.
What We Publish
In nonfiction, we look for thought-provoking, entertaining books on nature, history, cultural and literary heritage, and spirituality topics. We also publish a variety of instructional how-to books to serve personal and professional needs.
In fiction, we are open to considering a diverse range of literary, commercial, and genre fiction, including chapter books for young readers and select picturebook titles, along with novel-length works for adult readers. We’re also exploring markets for short stories and novellas.
In all cases, we are focused on works that are rich in traditions of storytelling, sense of place, positive values, and of genuine value to readers.
About our Name
A crick is a little stream . . . much smaller than a river, but overflowing with a rich sense of place, a wonderful spot to visit for those who live nearby.
A hollow (related to the word “hole”) is a small valley in the hills . . . often with a nice creek.
Crickhollow = a neighborly, cozy, peaceful place.
Crispin is our second imprint name, and emerged initially as a name to use for our ebook releases (well, most of them). But Crispin now also does original trade paperbacks, and these tend to be genre fiction – historical fiction, mysteries, fantasy. Overall, there is no great difference between Crickhollow and Crispin; for some reason we just ended up with the two names, and like them equally.
We hope you find something here to appeal to your literary needs, to tickle your bookish fancies. Drop by anytime, pull up a virtual chair, and let’s celebrate the fellowship of friendly conversations, good books, and great stories.
